@simonsmatthew To me, the free flow you say he lacks is the linchpin of his performance! I like him precisely because he does NOT sound like a competition pianist. But you're right about this being a very difficult Nocturne to interpret and I agree that there could be even more subtleties. But I think all in all he's one of the best players to come along in recent years. To me, in Chopin he sounds a lot like Cliburn. I'd be curious to know what you think, and what new pianists you like.

@simonsmatthew I would say it is much more than just a "relatively good performance." He plays with intensity and passion where needed, yet his nuances are many - the jewelled perfection when the main theme returns wrapped in crystalline trills is exquisite. You complain about no rubato but his rubato is divine near the end where the right hand wanders far into the upper register, and there are many more such moments throughout the piece. All of this is better than "relatively good."
