@tokaidosan: Learn some respect. These are videos of young men practicing, everybody looks awkward while learning. But in these days martial arts were practiced in earnest, and to say that this is Karate at it's worst is as much an insult as it is a miscalculation.
Karate at it's worst would be the black belt factories and McDojos that many American schools have devolved into since the 80's. This was a time when the art was truly respected.

gogen yamaguchi sensei was the teacher of oyama masutasu kyokushin karate founder.

I was a student of Gogen Yamaguchi, Sensei. The reason you do not appreciate the cat stance is because you do not understand it or practiced it long and hard enough to appreciate it. The nekoashidachi is the most difficult stand to use correctly but also the fastest!

@Sasukingu damn right you are. me too!

At like the 45 second mark are those elbows to the face?

You can truly sence the spirit of Karate in this video. Amazing to see what kind of discipline they had in those days.
Thank you for the video :)

2:49 The footage of the forest and later the waterfall are beautifull, makes me feel really really proud student of Goju Ryu.

@SallyMyers1991 yeah the tiger story is actually true from what my instructors say. Pretty scary to think that Yamaguchi sensei killed an 800lb animal with his bare hands

Jyu Kumite scene was ridicuolous. Too weak . These fighters probably wont afford a jka FIghter or any other Professional from Martial Arts. This is Karate at their worst
Wow... The Cat himself ! And the music is inspirational ! What's the name of the track ? Who's the composer ? Good video !

I really like the cat stance for kumite. i do not go as low as i do in kihon but i think because i have strong legs and a small upper body it is eraser for me than for others. I like it because it allows me to keep my head back and out of range.

We take what works for us. Cat stance is mostly a defensive stance, we all do a version of it as we back away.

I never believed in cat-stance kumite, even though i've been in the ikga for years.
