How to properly connect a ceiling fan wall switch

How to properly connect a ceiling fan wall switch is something you don't want to pass over in too much of a rush. How hard could it be to connect up the ceiling fan wires to the back side of the wall switch? Two black wires on the back side of the ceiling fan wall switch........just hook up the fan switch like a regular light switch.....right? That's a big fat NO! I know you don't like reading directions....who does? That's why you have "joe"......right?

Hi Joe, What do I do with the white wire coming out of the wall box? My fan switch also has 2 blacks and a green coming from it.

@ArlTam How many white wires do you have coming out of the box? You should have at least 2...connect all the white wires together under a wirenut & push back in the box. Do not connect to the fan switch. Connect the 2 black wires to the fan switch. Connect the ground wire to the green screw coming off the fan switch. How many wires do you have in your box total? @ArlTam What kind of fan switch do you have? It could make a difference as to how I tell you to connect the black wires to the switch, especially if it's a dimmer switch. Please let me know. Are you replacing the switch like for like? or chaning a standard switch to a dimmer switch? It makes a difference. Joe :0

@Queenterrier Then you're not like most people as the "masses" hate to read directions....."joe" included lol! Those directions are starting to get hard for me to read since they always print them so small & "joe's" having a hard time reading small print........he's not as young as he use to be & things are starting to get a little dim around here lol! :0
