@cccurtis We relieved the USS Long Beach in late October of 1972, as I recall. They were "Red Crown" during Linebacker !. These are very interesting recordings to anyone who was involved.

Rest in peace Ebony 02.
What cell was he in?
At 09:33 is gallows humor from the gunner, telling a joke while standing on the scaffold waiting for water to run out of the bucket below him to trigger the trap door he’s standing on.

Pinto flight is dead silent, and nobody calls them either. We know they were marked on the bullseye by Red Crown, so they are //right// there.
Hhmmmm....

Brings back a lot of memories. I was up the next night flying Moonbeam when I saw one of Scarlet flight get shot down by a couple of SAMS that came up from two different directions. There were not as many launches that night. I especially remember the beepers and other crewmembers making the contact call - "beeper, beeper, come up voice."

You can hear the radars in the background, multiple fire control and search radars. :26 "R2 Winchester" = out of ammo...Red Crown=a ship keeping track of the aircraft...making sure there are the right number coming back.

SA-2 GUIDELINE missile has a Wikipedia altitude of 66,000 ft. These guys are flying at 33,500
I was a radarman and air intercept controller on board the USS Truxtun DLG(N) 35, which was "Red Crown" during Linebacker II. Red Crown was not the USS Long Beach at this time, as was reported in the first video. I haven't heard any of these recordings since the war ended, but all kinds of memories are coming back. Very heady times! Thanks for posting these.

@bantumwt Thanks much for the correction. I can't remember why I used the Long Beach. I must have read it somewhere.
