"We know the ancient Macedonians
were fundamentally Greeks, that is to say they
were Greek speakers and Ethnically they
were Greeks."

Dimitili. I kbow you're a proud Greek. That's obvious to see, and i respect that. The comment about where the Macedonians originated from was true. In my personal opinion though. Where their ancestors came from and who they turned into are completely different. Just because their ancestors were Greek, doesn't make them Greek. The Macedonians saw themselves as Macedonians, not Greeks.

@iainp18 Thats like saying Spartans saw themselves as Spartans, not Greeks, or Athenians saw themselves as Athenians. Which is true, cos Greece was not a unified nation like it is today, it was a collection of city-states. In them days, Macedonia was part of Greece. People can say what they want, but nobody will convince me that Macedonia in those times wasnt part of Greece. Alexander was fighting for Greek glory and freedom, not 'Macedonian'.

Erm.. To point out slightly that Alexander the great was Macedonian, not Greek. So he can't really be included in this. The rest is right though. I think ancient Greek history is one of the most interesting periods of history. It's just a shame that Greece had it's power knocked out when Rome conquered it. I think the world today and even the Romans learned/stole a hell of alot of the culture/methods of the greeks.

@iainp18 To point out slightly that back then, Macedonia WAS Greece. lol Anyone who says it isnt is living in denial, same religion, same culture, same armour, same tactics, same names and language, same everything.
