what is needed is capitalism (to maximise overall wealth) but a certain amount of redistribution undertaken by government. Public services, higher taxes for the rich etc

Capitalism is only good for the working classes when a country has the following things occur: drop in overall fertility rates due to income and education. Labor pool shrinks requiring companies to provide better treatment, pay, and other services to their workers. In the current economy Capitalism sucks. Plus with all the illegals flooding the market we have a bloated labor pool and thus high unemployment and poor worker treatment. I can tell someone has never been screwed by a corporation btw.

Oh I agree! I'm a democratic socialist and strongly believe in fairness and social justice, however, the market is indeed needed to produce things we love and enjoy such as computers, televisions clothes, alcohol, so therefore controlled capitalism, I think, is needed somewhat. Imagine a world with no ideas?
