Polio is a disease that could be extinguished entirely through vaccinations but yet it still kills thousands each year.

The situation in Nigeria is by far the worst. It has the highest number of polio cases in the world.

And as Yvonne Ndege reports from Kanu State fear and superstitution form part of the problem.

  • Muslims have same problem in all nations... India eradicated Polio in late 1980s, but, it's coming back in the Muslim areas because they're not vaccinating their children because of the same issue.

  • Religion (a.k.a. superstition) can be stronger than truth sometimes.

  • @philipp35a Just a quick googlesearch to find out the so-called decline do not refer to actually measured temperatures. Are glaciers and ice caps not receding ? Let's also not care about populations victims of desertification or living at sea level. Good job for calling someone sheeple when you buy the propaganda fitting with oil and coal companies agenda with the help of conservative media. Back to the vaccines topic, look up Andrew Wakefield fiascao (or fraud, unethical study, as keywords)

  • @philipp35a Climategate is no science. It's a mediatic buzz generated by climate denialists who actually do no science, only "anomaly hunting" and misinterpretation. None of the climatologist studies have been proven fraudulous by a better study.

  • @azbacnikorange I was replying to an antivax who advised me to watch YT videos to convince me that vaccines are a population mass destruction strategy. I'm not very familar with scientific papers but I've seen statistics about polio. I also know there are no more kids in steel lung and buses full of young ppl in wheelchairs afflicted by polio, like I saw 45 years ago in my country. I've had all the shots, so had my kids, and we developped no demonic posession symptoms or autism.

  • @illegalbadgerbaiting Thank you thank you for being so level headed! I am constantly surprise by the level of unfounded paranoia and misinformation people spread through their comments. ANd I always thought the internet would solve the problem of ignorance. Shame on me!

  • @synsei1 ARe you kidding? DO you have access to scientific journals? If so, type "polio" in the query (it's kinda like 'Googling,' only for people with brains) and we will find many.

  • @j2v2j2v2 A youtube video is not a scientific study. Any other sources ?

  • yes joein1972, Africa had neither smallpox or polio before the 20th century.... are you insane??? What these doctors are doing is the most worthy cause on the face of this earth. It's our greatest shame that we have let immunisation in the west drop through misinformation. Every time a comment like yours is made, it chips away at the work of everyone who wants to see kids have disease free childhoods.

  • The vaccine program in third world countries spread disease to these poor people

  • Science can't help the human race if people won't learn it... or make up insane stories to contradict it...and then choose to believe the stories over the science. That one flaw could endanger the lives of billions!
