an utterly fantastic video from 1966 that speculates on what life will be like in 1999... so I thought I'd upload it to celebrate 2009! It is so funny the way they talk about 'the wife' and 'the husband'. Unlike most videos from the past that speculated on flying cars and robots doing all our chores, this one went for the 'home shopping' angle, bank account unification and a way to send letters electronically all over the world.

  • It's funny how prescient it is, and yet still views future tech through the filter of 1960's sensibilities. Makes me wonder just how much our culture colors our hopes for the future.

  • @chucklat It is.

  • Flat screen monitors FTW

  • The predictions are remarkably accurate. Ok, so the implementation of those predictions are a little odd considering what we have today. But, considering the ideas that they had with a 1960's mentality is pretty amazing. We have instant messaging, we have instant online banking, we have printers, we have online shopping. I don't know about you guys, but I can't work properly without multiple screens either... ;-)

  • A freakin 2nd computer with 3 screens to pay bills?!?

  • i like the idea of electronic letter writing

  • 0:54 I love when he sees the sh!t she bought and and shakes his head like OMGWTF" Then he gets pissed and gets up.

  • . . . and not to mention all the awesome porn we'll be able to gawk at one day on the computer.

  • "All bills and transactions will be carried out electronically" using pictures of those bills on paper.

  • "what the wife buys the husband will pay for!" Like hell! Whatever happend to the good ol' days of Ebay and Amazon?
