That night I wore more layers to bed so Zach couldn't feel the gauze. I made sure to sleep on my right side so I didn't put too much pressure on it. Zach didn't suspect anything and just cuddled up behind me. The next day the guys were running around getting ready for Prom. I left them at noon and took a bus to San Diego, where I was going to meet Vic at Rubino's. We'd have burritos and then hit the beach before going home.
On the beach I didn't go surfing because of my side. Instead Vic and I played an intense game of volleyball that lasted quite a long time. We went back to his car and finished our take out burritos that we had gotten and went home.
"I'M HOME!!!" I yelled upon reaching the Porter household.
Mrs. Porter came running and hugged me tight. I began developing large amounts of pain in the area where ink was gabbed into a layer of my skin with a sharp needle. I yelped and Mrs. Porter went into Mamma-nurse mode.
"Are you okay? It that your spleen? Tell me what's wrong. On a scale of one to ten what's the level of pain that you are feeling? How many fingers am I holding up?"
I lifted my shirt to show the taped on gauze. She gasped.
"WHAT HAPPENED?!?"
"I got a tattoo..."
Mr. Porter walked in, "Did you just say you got a tattoo? Please don't tell me you destroyed your body like that."
I sat the Porters down in their living room and gently peeled away the tape. The area was still a bit red but was amazingly healing fast. The read it and smiled. I explained the background of it to them, so they'd fully understand.
"That's so sweet," Mr. Porter said.
"Did you have Zach write it then go to the tattoo place?" Vic asked.
"Yeah, it does have an uncanny resemblance..." Mrs. Porter added.
"No, Zach doesn't know. I took his old lyric book and had the dude at the place enlarge it."
They were all smiling when Mr. Porter said that Zach was going to love it. I then sat down next to Vic and Mrs. Porter as Mr. Porter put on a movie he had recently got and wanted us to watch as a family. Vic got a blanket and put it over all of us and I cuddled my head on Mrs. Porter's shoulder. The movie ended up being the British indie film that was quite good. It was called How to Be, and if you haven't seen it I suggest you do. It reminded me a bit of the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was number two on my top ten favorite books.
We ate dinner together and I helped with the dishes. After showers Vic and I played a few games of Battleship and Uno. I was tired and my side was still a bit tender. I excused myself and went up to Zach's room. I took down the bed and called up the tattoo shop to ask how much longer healing was going to be. I explained the current status on it and the man said that at this rate I'd be healed up by tomorrow night. Then I fell asleep in Zachary's bed. I loved being surrounded by his Zach-smelling sheets, and I fell asleep with a grin on my face.
