He plays a forensic psychiatrist on NBC's Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, but B.D. Wong is also an author, Broadway actor and speaker. He was in Grand Rapids as part of an on-going series addressing diversity issues.

So far this year, The Grand Rapids Community College Diversity Lecture Series has focused on politics and aging and now a Tony Award winning actor addresses racial self image.

Actor B.D. Wong says his industry is fraught with rejection and racism. Living with that day to day helps him articulate about these issues to new audiences. That's why he spoke at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids as part of GRCC's on-going Diversity Lecture Series on Wednesday, December 3, at Fountain Street Church.

Wong discussed what he calls "the model minority myth" and shared his personal drama that he and his partner endured on thier path to parenthood.
