Medley Pop Hits of the 70s

1. Gilbert O'Sullivan - Clair (1972)
Clair, the moment I met you, I swear,
I felt as if something somewhere
Had happened to me which I couldn't see.
And then the moment I met you again
I knew in my heart that we were friends.
It had to be so, it couldn't be no.

But try as hard as I might do, I don't know why
You get to me in a way I can't describe.
Words mean so little when you look up and smile.
I don't care what people say, to me
You're more than a child, Oh Clair, Clair.

Clair, I've told you before, don't you dare!
Get back into bed, can't you see that it's late.
No, you can't have a drink, oh, alright then.
But wait just a bit while I in an effort to baby sit
Capture my breath, what there is left of it.
You can be murder at this hour of the day
But in the morning the sun will seem a lifetime away,
Oh Clair, Clair - oh Clair

2. Les Humphries Singers - Mexico (1972)
Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico

Well we looked down the river till we seed the British come
There must have been a hundred of them beatin' on the drum
They stepped so high and we heard the people sing
well we stood beside our cotton bales and never said a thing

We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico
O ho ho ho ho, O ho ho ho ho
I said O ho ho ho ho, O ho ho ho ho
I said ME (ME), X (X), I C O
Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico

Well they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
and they ran through the bushes where the rabbits couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
All down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico
Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico
Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico

3. Middle of the Road - Samson and Delilah (1972)
Samson and Delilah lived a long long time ago.
She was undecided, but man that hair just had to go.

Na na na na na ...

On the Friday evening things were going mighty fine
then he started sleeping 'cos she slipped something in the wine.

Na na na na na ...

Ain't no glory in this fable like the story Cane and Abel
Samson neatly turned the tables.
Ain't no glory in this fable like the story Cane and Abel

4. Soulful Dynamics - Mademoiselle Ninette (1970)
In my last holiday I took a trip to the USA
well I did fine I had a very good time

Guess what happened to me, I met a girl and one two three
I fell in love and got the heaven above

Mademoiselle Ninette, no no I've never had a girl like you
Mademoiselle Ninette, no no I've never had a girl like you

We spent every day, it was so nice that even today
I see Ninette, can't get her out of my head

In my next holiday I'll take a trip to the USA
and it'll be fine, I'll have a very good time

Mademoiselle Ninette, no no I've never had a girl like you
Mademoiselle Ninette, no no I've never had well it's true

Sun rise this is the last day that I'll ever seeout in the court-yard they're

ready for mebut I go to my Lord without fear'cos I did what I did for Maria.

before he went downIt was quick it was clean made it easy on himwhich is more

than he did for Maria. When he did what he did for Maria.

Take an eye for an eye and a life for a lifeand somebody must die for the death

  • I was a teenager in the 70's and it was as good as you imagine it was!

I was a teenager in the 1970s, which I consider the last free decade...free from worry of so many horrible things my kids have to worry about...I consider the 70s or the 50s (based on my mom and dad's memories) to be the best decades to be a teen. The 60's and all the rest - just yuck.

  • @puterzhome Was it really? Fuel crisis began, Viet Nam continued, America just began to see Japan take over manufacturing, government became publicly corrupt with Watergate, the south was extremely racist and the KKK continued to rally, Carter lost to the first terrorist acts on hostages, and AIDs began it's destructive force on the world. As a teenager, you were obliviously stoned on weak marijuana, the abortion movement began, women's lib, crime was on the rise. Yeah, it was what it was.

  • Super bands-super musics!

  • Was a teen in the 80s but I remember alot of this music. I took an appreciation to music as early as 6 and can still remember some of the memories associated with, good as well as bad but I would never trade those memories for anything in the world. I'm sure every generation feels the same.

  • nice try, but the 70's had much better music than this crap.never heard most of these songs. keep trying your blends could be better.

  • The music of one's youth -- esp. teens & 20s -- created the strongest associations in your memory. If you were miserable & lonely in the 70s, the music from that period will remind you of it. It will make you miserable, even if from a critical point of view you admire it. If you were happy in the 80s, you'll have a fondness for the music of that period, even if otherwise you don't care for it.
