It shocks me how outright Oprah is with her questions on such sensitive subjects- "So, I understand you started cutting yourself?" Uh, this isn't casual conversation. And especially the comment, "I have NEVER understood the cutting," like there's something wrong with Amy as a person for having dealt with her pain in that way. Not at all supportive.

I think it is very easy to say to do it "for the process." And in a perfect world maybe. But as people we do things for the results. I mean, I don't go to school for the process, I go to get a degree. I don't cook for the process, I want to eat. It's just not fair to say that.

And even after everything that happened, Kristie Phillips truly loves the sport. I love her for defending the sport. Betty, too!

@LETMEINGUYS Did you read the book?? Bela's abusive methods have been well-documented by MANY of his past gymnasts, including some who were on the Romanian team, like Emelia Eberle. Dominique Moceanu noted that she suffered abuse at the hands of both Marta and Bela. 5,000 other coaches weren't physically or mentally abusing their students. Bela was. Your comment makes NO sense.

@hz11287 she worked with Mary-Lee Tracy for awhile coaching, attempted a come-back in 1998, and I believe is still coaching now.

I really believe that you should love the process before loving the end goal. I don't mean to say the end goal isn't important, but I am saying that many people find out about themselves and what they're capable of as human beings by pursuing a goal (including gymnasts, but not just gymnasts), even if they don't achieve it in the end. That in itself is a success.

My step son is a fire fighter and he loves it. He can get killed doing that, and has gotten hurt. Of course gymnastics is not the same as saving lives. But, when do you quit? when do you press on? is a gray line.

Kind of reminds me of the "Wrestler", sometimes that's all you know and truly love.
