Fire at NT Air Terminal

A massive fire has completely destroyed one of the oldest structures at the Prince George airport. The NT Air hanger was engulfed in flames around 3 this afternoon. Within two hours, the ferocious flames brought the structure to the ground.

NT Air says it expects to be fully operational Monday despite Saturday's devastating fire at the Prince George Airport. The fire engulfed the massive NT Air Hanger within a couple of hours. General Manager Bill Hesse (HESS) credited his maintenance engineers with saving more than a million dollars of equipment. Hesse says the workers pulled 8 aircraft out of the building, along with tool boxes and technical records within the first hour of the fire. A plan is being developed to temporarily shuffle employees throughout the NT Air chain, distributing them to bases in Smithers and Vancouver. He expects operations will be completely functional Monday morning.

The investigation into the fire at the NT Air hanger has a new development. RCMP are now looking into the possibility a person was in the fire. RCMP were advised by a local family that they cannot reach contact with their family member. The 53 year old man's vehicle was located in the hanger's parking lot. The investigation continues.

im with the PGFD and there was two people missing actually,they think that both of them were in the fire they were family members in the office but they arnt not sure but they sre on a emergency search from them. One of the persons tuck was there so we are thinking they were caught in it but we are still in the investigation, but it is hard to work in with the weather we are having

I'd originally posted the article from the local newspaper saying the man's name who they think might have been in the fire, but since then I also found out the family did not want the man's name published. Therefore, I removed the comment to respect the family.

However, I can confirm that family and community members do believe that the man they are searching for was in the blaze. It's just a matter of finding his remains.

I am very sorry to hear this. My condolences to the man's family.

My Dad worked there for forty years. Watching that building burn is a bit like seeing a part of your past die.

I was supposed to be there again in two days.  But I can't possibly bemoan the disruption to my holiday knowing that someone's family lost a loved one in the fire.

I agree, whatever delays happen because of the fire, we are all thinking about the possible missing person. I sure hope it's not true.

i live in prince george and my mom works in the air port beside it so it was pretty scary they couldnt land the plane fr like 3 hours i think

Ya, I hope the man is okay. I'm really glad the firefighters were able to keep the blaze to the one building... it was only a few hundred meters from the main terminal. I think they will rebuild, I'm sure the place was insured.

Wow, that sucks, hopefully the person who is missing is found, but at least it did not spread to other buildings... I hope they rebuild
