  • Matt san,

Nice presentation - good stuff, but it looks as if you lost the color???

  • @mccarthysensei There is a video of this in colour, Patrick Sensei?

  • @mccarthysensei Ah so. :) I just saw where you said it looks like I "lost the colour" 2 years ago, and thought maybe you knew of a colour copy of it. Thanks.

  • This is awesome. I got to learn this kata, but my Sensei called it Aragaki Kurotori (

sp) Sochin. Does anyone know if there's a difference?

  • A number of different Okinawan systems use this sort of hip movement. A number of the modern styles such as Shotokan and Shito Ryu and many other hybrid systems either eliminated the hip movements or never learned them in the beginning. I am not sure if they are helpful or not.

  • Matt - RU asking me, "if I have him doing the kata in colour?" If so, no, I don't; but, to the best of my knowledge, he learned the kata from Higa Yuchoku. Might be worth looking around to see if anyone has a copy of Higa sensei performing the kata.

  • nice! but what's the name of the song in the background?

  • @recalcitrantdefiance No the hip movement in kata is often seen in Kyudokan Shorin ryu kata. Kishaba-juku that is a break away from Matsubayashi Shorin ryu has a similar technique,

  • The only person I've seen move their hips like that is Morio Higaonna. Is that something that has been lost over the years for tournament presentation's sake? Sometimes I wonder if the snappiness done in kata for tourneys is failing to teach the proper generation of power and torque.

  • Thank you for adding this vidéo
