@Weston1968 The cushions are based on training tools that have been around in martial culture for thousands of years, similar devices were used in china by the Shaolin monks, Japan by the Shinobi and many other cultures where balance was a desirable trait. To this day you will find athletes from nearly every full contact sport using these. I think you made an offhanded remark and are too proud to admit that perhaps you misjudged them. Your loss, I hope your knees remain uninjured. Osu.

@ToraJutsu01You keep your cushions if they mean that much to you! I am afraid your teaching Granny to suck eggs where the Martial Arts is concerned.

@Weston1968 I think what's sadder is when people limit themselves from evolving as fighters and athletes by allowing prejudice and ignorance to cause them to dismiss what has the potential to better them. Oyama took what was and made it evolve, made it better IMO. If we do not attempt to better what we have then we will fall behind those who are not afraid of progress. FYI world class athletes use these cushions to help condition the joints and muscles for better balance and to prevent injury.

We practised Tobi Komi Zuki in Karate 25 years ago but we didn't need rubber cushions to do it & nor did Oyama me thinks?

@Weston1968 Masutatsu Oyama was well known for his preference of jumping as a way of developing powerful kicks. These exercises are excellent if you want to be quick and explosive. It is the evolution of sport science.

Fuck me what's happened to the World? It's a sad day when a Karate instructor needs a rubber cushion to play with!
