[Winter Park, Florida] -From 1978 through 1998, I lived within nine miles from Hannibal Square, which had once been known as the lower west side of Winter Park. Winter Park is known as the Palm Beach of Central Florida.
A few months ago I returned to the neighborhood to volunteer at The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Center, and that sparked my curiosity about Mary Lee DePugh.
I learned why the Home was named in her honor and also why she founded the Ideal Women's Club.
This Youtube was made in honor of Mary Lee DePugh and in her spirit concludes with an invitation to Oprah Winfrey, all of her friends and every visitor to Central Florida.
Ideal Women's Club Motto by Mary Lee DePugh
"We pledge ourselves to make every effort to accomplish what we undertake. We will not be 'slackers' or afraid of hard work. If we undertake to do something too big for one of us to do alone, we will all take hold and help. If it is too big for all of us, we will get others to help; only it must be done some way, by someone, at some time. We pledge each other not to talk of what we are going to do more than is necessary until it is done. Then we will try to find something else to do."
