This comes down to money California is broke and Washington has demanded budget cuts. It comes down to money. If you call in air support and don't need it waste money and next time there a fire there no money for extra resources. As Washington put it after 2005 fire season we can't write blank checks So fire captains have to play a wait and see game If this pisses you off write your senator and demand a better solution.Without money this will happen again.Don't blame firefighters blame politics

Really, no wind? Thats why 10+ fires burnt the entire week. Because there was no wind. Resources were already stretched thin. I think if the resources were available we would have had them.

I am a firefighter from arizona and I just got back from the Santiago Fire. It was my first time fighting fire in california. To say the least... It was different. I've fought fire in 8 other states and never have i been so frustrated as i was in california. The first two days we were there, we were sitting in Irvine park with about 80 fire engine. we could listen to our radios and hear that houses were burning. They wouldn't send us out there to bite the head off the beast.
