Thank you for visiting our country Japan.

The only significance of the bamboo&ropes around the trees is to keep tourists from rubbing up against them and/or ripping off the bark. Those trees are a few hundred years old but could easily be killed by a year or two of tourists and pilgrims passing by.
Nice video. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing this important experience with us. We had similar feelings of respectful incomprehension when we were visiting Shinto shrines.

Nice video, I didn't knew that the bridge was rebuilt so often.
i went to Ise this year (2010) and the bridge is brand new.
(you can see it here at 2:11 )

Japanese folklore says if you disrespect a Shinto shrine, a monster called the Otoroshi will subjugate you! They live on top of the Torii gates.

audio is terrible but informative
thank you. Its interesting how these videos, originally filmed so my family and friends can see what I was doing while away for 3 months, are now being watched by many people and receiving comments. It makes me want to take back some of the shallow or sarcastic comments I make, but I'm glad people enjoy many of these videos.
