  • Singer does a good job rapping at the bridge, but it's hard to sing like James.

  • Why should he sing like James? He should sing like himself. There's only one James. And there's only on Gyn Brown.

James might have made the tune famous, but this recording here is Gyn Brown & The Blue Light, not James Brown and the Blue Light.

Personally, I dig. Everytime I watch this one, I get hypnotized.

  • Well why dont I hear an original?.... if you want to do a cover. do it to the max. would you want to hear "Lickin stick" sung by Micheal Jackson or with a high voice? You can use a style without trying to copy, thats just my opinion.

  • imho, a good cover is original -- or different from the first artist.

example -- satisfaction by otis redding is much differnt than the original by the stones

or aretha's cover of satisfaction is completely differnt than the original by otis

    just a friendly disagreement.

these guys are a great live dance band. go see them if you're in hawaii. they'll take you into the family with open arms

  • To 'LLMLB', did you mean to say 'Respect' instead of 'satisfaction for the Otis/Aretha comparison?

  • i did mean that. aretha's version of respect is completely different, but i did mean satisfaction when referring to the stones. thanks for pointing that out

  • hell yah! i'm gonna see these guys saturday night @ Jazz Minds. Saw their ad in the paper and had a hunch they were going to be good. You guys funkin rock!

  • Aloha and thanx for the comment, but the problem here is the constant changing of members. We can never keep the same players to make it airtight so we give it the best that we can in keeping JB alive. I agree, I've heard better however we just love the funk baby

  • I must admit the person who commented that the drum and bass is not on the one is incorrect; however the groove fails in my opinion which may give the impression that the groove is off. Before I receive flak over this I work with musicians that actually played for James Brown and we all agreed the groove failed but the concept was nice. James Brown's band did a lot of changes but they were airtight, this takes a lot of time to perfect.

  • Great interpolation(interpretation) of the Big payback. James Brown often played many versions of his own songs. He often derived new songs from existing ones(Excape-ism became Make It Funky; Give It Up Turn It Loose became Sex Machine and so-forth). This is creative and plays on the band and vocalists strengths.

  • Great cover. Sounds jazzy and funked up. I like the tempo. The horns remind me of the Temptations 70's songs. has a lot of feeling. A lot of cover bands just run through songs.

  • Right, no argument, I think we are confusing doing an original version of a song with being a cover band.
