This 8 minute video, Mi Vida - My Life , presents the thoughts and feelings of migrant middle school students with 31 silk paintings on display at Las Comadres Restaurant by the National Steinbeck Center on Main Street in Salinas, CA.
The exhibit reception included performances by Alisal Center for the Fine Arts' Rondalla Armonia under the direction of Armando Sarabia. The event was part of Salinas's First Friday Art Walk and made possible by a Packard Foundation grant to support community arts in Salinas in collaboration with the Salinas Union High School District and the Arts Council for Monterey County's Professional Artists in the Schools Program.
Linda Pedrazzini Hevern and Jennifer Chambis instructed the children in silk painting techniques with support from Kira Corser.
This video by Michael Houston of Picture Monterey.org used equipment made available by Academy Award winning director John Longenecker and Picture America.org which helps young film makers get access to high quality production equipment. Video production equipment is available to non profit groups and creative film makers in Monterey County through Picture Monterey.org.
