Ifrit might unlesh Fire 3, so you need to be careful sometimes with runic. Especially if shiva uses reflect on you making you unable to cure that one character, and making her magic reflect off you to cure her. But either way, it's an easy boss.

Haha, the first time I did this I never saw Ifrit to talk to him to start the battle. Took me an hour to figure it out. Then again, I had poor eyesight then.

i fucking knew it.. i used those Espers (Eidolins) in final fantasy IV for the ds.. those two were my favorite.. i could tell by their 8 bit figurine'y type figure

Runic absorbs any elemental magic attack cast during that turn and converts it to MP.
