Released in March, 2009,Viva Hein_Nart Ka Nar Pay Te Aim (Ritual Ceremonies Home)_Myanmar Remix Song, featuring Shan T from "Byo hit Tan & Kong Taw Nay" VCD. Credit to Burmese Classic.com.
Loudspeakers blaring out the rapid drum beats and bell chimes of ceremonial music, those possessed with nat spirits dance in a whirlwind that is a mixture of performance art and ritual worship.
Myanmar cross-dressers are the stars of nat pwe or 'Nart Ka Nar' ritual ceremonies honouring spirits which date back to a time before Buddhism and which many Myanmar still believe in.
Kyat notes are passed to the dancers, who sometimes toss the money back, with people sitting nearby quickly scooping up the bills.
Most of the nat possessors are great dancers and the music they play consists of old Myanmar songs — that is the best part of holding a Nart pwe. For others, however, the reasons for attending are more personal and more passionate.
