With noteable changes climate over the past decade bringing more rain, the River Wye flooding at Ross has become a regular event. This film was shot over two periods of flooding in 2009. The first took place during the last week of July and the second over the weekend of 14th / 15th November.
The film (mostly made up of time-lapse sequences) was shot in Ross-on-Wye by the Rope Walk, at Wilton, from Bridstow Bridge, Symonds Yat East and Yat Rock. The sunrise was filmed at Wilton and the sunset at Yat Rock - as were the starlit sky scenes towards the end. The aerial view at the beginning was shot from a Robinson helicopter.
Points of interest to look out for include:
The constellation of Orion the Hunter in the night view of Ross across the river.
The rain shower which crosses Wilton Bridge just after the start of the second piece of music.
The Milky Way and a brief flash of the International Space Station passing overhead, 4 frames from the end of the Milky Way scene.
One regretable thing for me... When I was filming the night scenes from Yat Rock, I had the camera set to take a 10 second exposure every 20 seconds. During one of the 10 second periods with the shutter closed, the brightest fireball meteor I have EVER seen dropped from the sky and fell vertically, reaching as low as about 10,000 feet before burning out. It fell slowly, glowing brilliant white and in its final stages, spiralled towards the ground like a burned out firework rocket.
Nicely done.

You're welcome. I'm kayaking down the Wye tomorrow for my first time down to Symonds Yat. I'll be taking my onboars cameras so be sure to look at my channel for the vids. Respect to the rivers.

I will look out for that. Oddly enough, yesterday I filmed Ross-on-Wye to Symonds Yat for my local info website, 'Wyenot' (see link from my channel). I did it from a boat rather than a canoe, which was difficult. The water level is very low at the moment - the run took 7 hours because I had to get out and drag the boat over shallows. It will be easier in a canoe but be prepared for very low water. Enjoy!

Blimey! I thought 7 was long enough. I know how you feel though. It's a lovely journey - better when the water is fast as mostly you can just steer but at the moment, it's not flowing. Hope you recover soon. :)
