@donutboy8 Exactly. People want to bash Singletary and maybe they have a good reason, he didn't do a great job while there. However, it took his disciplinarian ways to show guys like Vernon Davis that you have to make the most out of your God given talent and not to take that for granted.

@SuperOmnicron My comment was regarding Vernon's ego not his talent. I agree with your reply for the most part tho. . . I think Singletary took the total opposite approach on Smith than he should of. I dont think Alex needed "breaking down, more so "building up." The Harbaugh approach seems to be the effective one. Mike is too much of a hot head to deal with Smith, however Vernon needed that at that time.

@wreckedmindz , no Mike broke Alex down and Jim built HIM up. Alex Smith was a basket case after Singletary went "Ditka" all over him. To be perfectly honest, Davis always was good, it was Smith who was inconsistent, and Davis would always yell at him or the coordinator to throw him the ball.

@originalshamus ...yeah, i think this moment, and the confrontation with Troy Smith and Alex Smith really woke them up and they were ready to focus...Harbaugh simply nurtured them a little more and brought Fangio to make the defense even better. Carlos Rogers was a huge pick up in free agency. this moment may have been the defining moment that turned them into the winners they are now.

Mike Singletary is one of the greatest players of all time. Vernon Davis was on some selfish shit back then and he learned form it. Now that discipline has paid off. Davis thanked him the same way most children thank their parents for ass whoopings which kept them out of jail.

It's funny how 49er bandwagon fans are hatin on Singletary. If it wasn't for this man, Vernon wouldn't be who he is. Singletary disciplined the players, Harbaugh executed the playbook. Don't believe me? Go to NFL.com and read the article about how Vernon thanks Singletary.
