Humm, Traditional values refer to those beliefs, moral codes, and mores that are passed down from generation to generation within a culture, subculture or community. In its own right "traditional values" simply means the values coming from tradition rather than any specific philosopher, moralist, or writer.

So I ask you; How do YOU define "traditional values" based on your "culture, subculture or community."

:-)

  • It depends which tradition you come from.

  • @Loreleila True, however, can "dated" values still apply today? After all, that which was valid in the 50s, can those values still apply in 2010? And those "values" and traditions that are valid today, will they be valid a decade from now?

  • Traditional Moral Values are just a way of say old fashioned middle class values "Family Values" well behaved kids raised from a loving monogamous marriage.

  • @VedekDrew Surely what matters is what is beneficial and helpful now, whether it's been part of tradition or not. Some things change, others are eternally the same. Our job is to discern which is which.
