A beautiful song by an amazing band.

Lyrics:

The taxi lights were in your eyes
so warm against st marys spires
the carnival was over in the rain
and arm in arm through Vincent street
the evening hanging like a dream
I touched your face and saw the night again

And in your arms I watched the stars
ascend and sweep a loneliness away for a while.
Your fingers white and locked in mine
I kiss your face I kiss your eyes until
they turn to me and softly smile

And empty hearted I walked on
the river flowing to the song
of the evening in the darkness and the rain
The christmas lights were far down stream
the wind so lonely and unreal
I saw your face and i thought you were a dream

But when I saw your eyes what could I do?
What could I say, my love?
Your kisses they will hide away the stars

Its Saturday, the evening's come
the football crowds have all gone home
but still behind this window I look on
december's leaves so slowly fall
to cars that break the evening's pall
and I will wait for you to come tonight

  • They are amazing and especially this song is my favourite! I've seen them live too, although I think it's better to hear their songs alone at home and travel with your mind...

Such an incredible band... So unique...

  • I saw Alasdair going into a greasy spoon cafe in Clapton once, but I never had the guts to say hi. I didn't want to get between a great songwriter and his brekkie, anyway. He needs fuel so he can make more lovely albums :)

  • Beautiful poetry, so beautiful, sincere and tender.

  • @teenageriot5

Their entire discography is available on emusic and is very inexpensive. Highly recommended!

  • it's saturday and I love this bands sound so------

  • Thanks for things like this, guys. The Clientele 1997-2011.

  • so smooth, perfectly relaxing sound

  • if you enjoy this try listening to Kelvin Parade by the Clientele

  • @jeffkahl Its and all their amazing songs are from "Suburban Light". After listening to it, I can't listen to anything else by The Clientele.

  • @jeffkahl It's also on the compilation album "Suburban Light"

  • I already said this on TV Tropes, but I'm pretty sure Alasdair MacLean's voice is the audio equivalent of a French kiss.
