This my take on remixing (recreating) the famous Alan Braxe and Fred falke Intro on my recently acquired Octatrack.

I have only used about 9Mo of samples
- track one is oneshot processed 909 kick
- T2 is a drum loop bit crushed of the original track
- T3 is a super short loop of the original containing just a kick and a hi hat
- T4 is a 909 one bar loop of HH, snare and clap
- T5 is a isolated bassline of the original track
- T7 plays the main sample that I resampled from an old record in my sp1200 passed through the dp 4 phaser the same way, I supposed, Braxe and Falke did.
- T6 plays either that sample or a 4 bars loop of the original intro at the end of the video
- T8 is used as a master bus for filter and repeater effects.

It took me about 2 hours starting from scratch.

  • Does the original track have an isolated bassline in the song somewhere, or did you do something to isolate it yourself? If yes, how is that done?

  • @viDUBla unfortunately it does not.

how i did it ? Eq dynamic filtering and envelope shaping

the end result is not so good imo and that's the major problem of my remix, I don't have a clean bass line :'(

  • First video with Octatrack that makes me wanna get one.

  • @AlecDrow do it it's a great box !

  • Really like this, good job! ... thinking of exchaning my NI maschine to one of these ... or just adding it to my setup.

Are the different tracks (T1, T2, T3 ..) pre-sequenced in some way? It some times seems like the tracks are chaning automaticly, is there a "song mode" of any sort where you put the whole song together or is everything done on the fly?

  • @motoboy6666 the patterns can be chained using the "arranger" to build a song. At anytime you can jump from any location of the arranger to pattern mode and vice versa.

I don't remember exactly how i sequenced this one but i think I might have used the arranger for convenience on some parts of the song.

In my last video "Sixteen minutes Octatrack House jam" all pattern changes are done on the fly.

  • excellent video! Never seen this thing before today! I really need something like this to work with! FL's built in tools are just not good enough

  • You're a wizard on that thing , great track...

  • i really appreciate the break downs on your process here. there are few videos that really show how to use the octatrack with great success!

  • this type of house is cool to do on the octatrack

  • I think its clever how you have sampled different bits of the record and you seem to have the octatrack performance effects down!

  • nice but the bass is a bit off beat.. to fast. very nice thoe!
