Unfortunately, mishaps like this are not a very rare occurrence in the BVI's... this was just an extreme case and we happened to have the camera running from the onset. Still amazes me how many of these bareboat captains are completely unqualified to operate these vessels, yet the bareboat companies keep renting them out without proper screening... and this one damaged 6 boats in 45 minutes, 4 of them private vessels like ours. Guess as long as you have a credit card... Can find out more about our charter business at www.WindInMySails.com and if you like the video, feel free to SHARE or RE-POST it anywhere!

  • They hit the bow of the trimaran first and effectively cut his mooring pennant with their prop. The owners saw it happening and got back to the boat in time to get the motors running and underway.

After that, the monohull carried on forward, still under full sail, and went across the bow of another monohull, 'Folie a Deux', and picked up his anchor chain with their rudder. After being dragged around for 20 minutes, 'Folie a Deux' finally cut their anchor chain loose and made a run for it.

  • Then they took the sunsail cat in tow.. under power, so yes, they still had run of their engine. The captain never left the helm the entire time, even after there were no sails up and no engine running, so not sure what he thought he was accomplishing there... and that guy on the bow must have coiled that piece of rope 30 times over... I still can't believe they waited until AFTER they had hit all 6 boats before they finally brought out any fenders!

  • You guys keeped your cool.... if it was my $200,000 sailboat getting its anchor line cut by a idot I would have had some ugly words to say... Why didn't he lower his sails? He needed to rent a power cat and keep it simple.

  • After many years of sailing I wish I could say this wasen't common. Though I have seen such many times, six vessels, this has to be a record. S/V Fine Romance

  • No matter how much money you have, you can't fix stupid!

  • Sad to say I have seen this kind of thing before friends wonder why we don't like to go into a bay full of charter vessels this sort of thing which happens more than I would like to admit is quite common.

  • A Sailor's Prayer

    Dear [insert deity here],

Please, don't ever let me be that guy.

    Amen, and pass the rum.

  • cute butt on the blonde

  • 2:23 Peek-a-Boo!

  • Dear sailors: watching Pirates of the Carribean (yes, even if you've watched ALL of them) does not qualify you to sail a boat.

    Wow.

  • Dumb to the forth power.

  • Thanks for this, cstaguy

    Very interesting video

Folie A Deux shows nice lines

    A J46, I think

    Wise to get well clear

Plenty of washing hanging out to dry. Pity there weren't any fenders instead
