Very Very Good! Thumbs Up!

Nice Tele.

Good Job.

Very cool! I love this song.

that is a good point about the green album. it feels like a reaction to the wildness and candour of pinkerton (is there any other album as candid?) i'll have to check out firewater too.

yes, some great albums. my ranking would be teenager of the year, catholics self titled, the first self titled, dog in sand--i'll have to revisit show me your tears--i recall liking that one a lot too.

Well Done! Are you enjoying the new Black Francis work? I was so happy to see him returning to a more Pixies-ish sound on Bluefinger. Any recommendations for Frank Black fans--artists they might like but not know about?

Well these aren't too obscure, but... I think older Spoon is pretty good, "Series of Sneaks" and "Girls Can Tell." And if you don't own David Bowie "Scary Monsters" you really should own that one. It's pretty much the blueprint for a lot of Frank Black.

Really, I did not know that about Bowie. I will certainly check out Scary Monsters then. Do you have a favorite Frank Black album? I'm inclined towards Teenager of the Year myself.

Probably the S/T, followed closely by the S/T Catholic's album, and very closely by Teenager of the Year. I'm pretty partial to Pistolero, Devil's Workshop and Dog in the Sand, too.

Oh, I just thought of two other good recommendations: Firewater - Get Off the Cross, We Need the Wood for the Fire (esp. if you also like Tom Waits) and Weezer - Pinkerton (nothing like their later stuff, I assure you).

i'll have to check out firewater then--i'm not familiar with it. love pinkerton--musically it seems like frank black. the energy and self-destructive vibe of pinkerton seems frank -black-like. if the lyrics were really surreal it would be really frank-black-ish.
i love pinkerton. oddly, i also love the kind of anti-pinkerton 'green album' by weezer. it feels intentionally bland, formulaic and detached. somehow it works for me. after the green album things went downhill for weezer, IMO.

I like the Green Album a little. However, what I miss on it are Rivers' solos, which are sort of one of the defining features of Weezer. But yeah, that was certainly their last album I would own.
Firewater are worth a listen. I reckon you may just like them.
