I love Bobby Vee's version... and the Clover's version is very cool, too. Please note: the lead guitarist on Vee's is none other Tommy Allsup (he played lead guitar on several Buddy Holly recordings) and I believe that Jerry Allison of Buddy Holly/Crickets fame is playing drums.
