Instructions

1. Do a very small hop onto your left foot, lifting and holding up your right knee. Drop your weight forward onto your right foot. Meanwhile, jump your left foot backward.

2. Hop onto your right foot, straightening out that leg. Meanwhile, lift and hold up your left knee. Drop your weight forward onto your left foot. Meanwhile, jump your right foot backward.

3. Repeat step one, then step two, as many times as you'd like.

Arm Variations

There are multiple moves that you can do with your arms during the running man.

In the original way, every time you dropped your weight forward onto a foot, you'd stretch the opposite arm up and forward. Your other arm would be stretching down and backward. Every time you switched to the other leg, you'd switch to the opposite arm. When switching arms, you'd sway them at your sides, one upward and one downward.

Another option is the more common way. Every time you hop onto a foot, hold your arms out in front of you, hands balled into fists. When you drop your weight forward onto a foot, pull your fists in, holding them in front of your chest. When you go back to the hop, pump your fists out in front of you.

You can also do the wop. When you drop your weight forward onto your right foot, hold up your fists, bending your forearms to the right and up. Land leaning slightly to the right. When you hop, swing your forearms down, your fists pointing downward. Swing them back up for the other direction.
