Julian sits down with his dad to discuss hair loss in the family and what his father thinks about Julian's Hair Transplant.

Julian: Hi everybody. It's week 41 of my video diary and it's hard to believe how fast time goes by. And in all these weeks of blogging, I've never had a chance to introduce you to my father. And this is my dad Earv. Hi dad.

Julian's Dad: Hi son.

[laughter]

Julian: It's kind of odd to interview your father or talk to your father but I have talked to my dad about hair loss in the past and I thought it would be great to sit down in front of the camera and share his views on hair loss with the rest of you. When I talked to him before, I found out there's a distinct difference between the generations and the reviews on hair loss and hair transplantation.

So before we get into that though, tell me how old you were when you first start losing your hair.

Julian's Dad: Oh my early 40's.

Julian: Yeah.

Julian's Dad: I started noticing them.

Julian: Was it a quick progression of hair loss?

Julian's Dad: No. That was very slow. It starts at the back and grows forward.

Julian: Yeah. How long did it take before other people noticed it?

Julian's Dad: Ten years. Eight to ten years. Yeah.

Julian: How did it affect you when others noticed.

Julian's Dad: I think when others started noticing then I became more conscious and aware of it. And what am I going to do about it?

Julian: Did you do anything?

Julian's Dad: Oh you know, I tried some remedies with shampoo and massage your scalp, take a pill. That didn't seem to work so you just accept it.

Julian: Did you style it anyway differently? I mean did...

Julian's Dad: Yeah. You know, I guess in those days, you've seen a lot of people flash it over the bald spot.

Julian: The comb-over?

Julian's Dad: Yeah, the big comb-over. But that's too obvious. So I cut my hair short and tried to curl it so it tends to hid the spot.

Julian: Yeah I remember the perm.

Julian's Dad: Yeah.

Julian: The perm that went back in the '70s.

Julian's Dad: Yeah.

Julian: Mm...hmm.

Julian's Dad: Yeah.

Julian: How about me? When did you noticed my hair loss?

Julian's Dad: 20's.

Julian: Yeah, quite a [overlap]

Julian's Dad: And it was kind of like, I didn't go say anything.

[laughter]

Julian: I didn't know that. Okay. Did I talk to you about hair transplantation back then.

Julian's Dad: Oh you talked about it. And that's a personal decision.

Julian: Mm...hmm. You've always been very supportive in everything that I've ever done but I never remember you really pushing me one direction or another in regards to getting a hair transplant.

Julian's Dad: I'm glad you did.

Julian: Yeah?

Julian's Dad: Yeah. I was, the other day I noticed it when you were on the phone...

Julian: Uhuh.

Julian's Dad: And I was in your office how your spot has disappeared.

Julian: Wow.

Julian's Dad: And it looked natural.

Julian: Good.

Julian's Dad: It doesn't look something artificial. It's natural.

Julian: Thanks. You've always told me it's coming along well but I appreciate you telling me that. Why did you only try let's say the comb over or hair shampoos and things? Why did you not try a hair transplant?

Julian's Dad: I just accepted it as it runs in the family. My father had the same problem and I just, oh this is just part of getting older.

Julian: Do you think your generation versus mine looks at cosmetic surgery or transplants differently.

Julian's Dad: Oh definitely. Yeah, definitely.

Julian: How so?

Julian's Dad: I mean when we were, when I was younger, men really didn't care how they looked.

Julian: Mm...hmm.

Julian's Dad: As they got older, this is just, there was [indiscernible][0:03:36] overalls and that was the way things were. Now people are more conscientious. They eat better. They take better care of their bodies and they want to look better. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Julian: So if you are in my generation, do you think you may have considered a hair transplant?

Julian's Dad: I would definitely considered it. Yes,

Julian: Yeah. Okay. Well I'm glad you're noticing a difference.
