Westboro Baptist Church No Show in Flour Bluff

Westboro Baptist, the church from Kansas known for blaming 9/11 and American soldiers deaths on homosexuality, planned to come to Flour Bluff, Texas to thank God for the deaths of 3 Navy officers who died in a helicopter crash.

The highway was filled with counter-protestors; however, Westboro never showed up.

A group protesting the WBC as well as homophobia and the military in general caught the attention of a lot of people.
Several people actually confused the anti-war / anti-homophobia protestors as Westboro Baptist, and some didn't care whether they were or not.

'There are a few discrepancies with your reporting of the protest at the Naval Air Station Feb. 2.

First, I was a part of what was inaccurately labeled the Del Mar College anti-war students. We went to express our discontent toward the homophobic message of the Westboro Baptist Church. We also carried an anti-war message, so as not to get bunched in with the "love-it or leave-it" crowd. We were there opposing homophobia, not supporting the war like the rest of the crowd.

Second, there was no coverage on how we were repeatedly assaulted physically by the larger crowd, nor how the police made no attempt to stop or prevent this. Third, there was no coverage on the mass confusion of why people were there. The majority in attendance did not know or understand who the Westboro Baptist Church actually are. We were told repeatedly that "homophobia has nothing to do with this."

Finally, it seems anyone reporting that day would have had to purposely go out of their way to not hear or report the racist, sexist, homophobic and hateful slurs directed to our group.'
