Mini-Bar Briefs: The DHS was created on Nov 25, 2002, under Republican control of the White House and both houses of Congress. It is the third largest cabinet department with 208,000 employees (2007) with an annual budget of $52 Billion(2009). The creation of DHS constituted the biggest government reorganization in American history, and the most substantial reorganization of federal agencies since the National Security Act of 1947, which placed the different military departments under a secretary of defense and created the National Security Council and Central Intelligence Agency. DHS also constitutes the most diverse merger of federal functions and responsibilities, incorporating 22 government agencies into a single organization.

On March 1, 2003, DHS absorbed the now-defunct Immigration and Naturalization Service and assumed its duties. In doing so, it divided the enforcement and services functions into two separate and new agencies: Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Citizenship and Immigration Services. Additionally, the border enforcement functions of the INS, the Customs Service, and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service were consolidated into a new agency under DHS: Customs and Border Protection. The Federal Protective Service falls under Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

I think that the fact I have to use a scanner and my kids get patted down at the airport like criminals and 5yr old kids can be put on a no-fly list and their putting in a bill to put metal detectors in malls with x-ray bags/purse scans now..wtf is that? are you telling me that someone who's out for no good is gonna stop at the detector and be like..whoa..when did they put this in? LOL. ppl need to worry more about home invasions from crackheads. this is about control and stopping a rebellion.
