I have had a BlastMatch from UST for some time now, and although it is thought by some to be the best firesteel out there I think the simpler Strike Force maybe the way to go if you want something more than just a firesteel. Both are around the $20.00 mark, so are worth looking into for your kit.

  • Great review.

  • In your personal opinion what do you think is the best firesteel cause personally I like the gerber one and not the light my fire one

  • So which is better, StrikeForce, or GobSpark? The StrikeForce has a tinder compartment, but the GobSpark looks like it has a better grip. I would have tinder anyway, so I'm think the GobSpark.

  • Sin duda alguna ambos son excelentes....Nice Video..Thanks to publish it...

  • what lenght is the flint rod on the strikeforce

  • i prefer to use the strikeforce kinda backwards from what you do there- try pulling the ferro rod away from the tinder and hold the striker side more or less still - seems to pull way more consistent sparks for me - catch your tinder the first try and save your rod!

  • I have to agree with you Adam, I have both and I prefer the Strike Force over the Blast Match for the very same reasons. The Blast Match is marketed as a one handed combustion device yet it is a bit troublesome to wield one handed. In an emergency situation it's a bonus to already have dry tinder provided. If I only had one good hand I'd place the tinder/kindling on the ground step on the handle of my knife and scrape the ferro on it's spine with my good hand, BOO-YAH one handed fire.

  • I have a Blast match and i pulled the rod out and keep that in my pocket. Strike with the back of the saw on my Leatherman; good-to-go!

  • @qmoor: I agree. I also use just a FireSteel Armageddon Junior with pre-drilled lanyard hole along with a Super Striker. Works excellent and is extremely simple. I use Kelty Triptease lightline as a lanyard because of it's reflective properties.

  • KISS- keep it simple stupid!! Simple is almost always better
