  • Unfortunately I don't share your optimism: it is the rich people that pay lower taxes and corruption fees and the poor people will suffer as usual. The displaced people didn't even get a compensation from those rich land grabbers, but the money has gone to the judges and government officials who are backing up the crimes against human rights... Much as I like Cambodia, I don't see corruption reducing for a looong time. And who cares about environment when you don't even own your own country. :(

  • @oakstrong1

You pointed out the problems in Cambodia. Please help and guide us how we can solved them. We need to encourage investments and tourism in Cambodia. Boycott investments and tourism hurt the poor people instead. But I do not agree with 90 yrs least for thousands of hectas of land. I rather see government give land to poor people to support thousand of families, instead of companies hire 30 or 40 workers. We need to see the companies buy the produces from people.

  • We need help from international communities in pressuring government fight corruption. Opposition is important as well because they may see problem when the ruling party does not see. I do not belong to any party in Cambodia. I love Cambodia and my people. I want to hear my language spoken. Cambodia is my birth place.

  • Iarbarcmc,

Why don't you travel in the different countries first and see which one you like best? If you think that Camko city will look remotely like the computer generated image, you will be disappointed: Cambodians don't care about the environment one little bit and in no time the roadsides will will have rotting food and plastic bags everywhere - you'll hardly see the water in canal from all the rubbish.

  • @oakstrong1 , Your thought and feeling are too negative about Cambodia. My thought and feeling are difference from you. People who live in Camko City are rich foreigners, middle class, investors and foreigners who escape high living cost in their countries. There must be some fee for people who live in Camko City, so some people will have a job because of Camko resident (hope they are paid decent wage). The more rich people come the better for Cambodia because they provide jobs.

  • @oakstrong1 , Hopefully they pay fair tax for their investment.

Have you heard old people are difficult to change them? But younger generation are more willing to change and open minded. You will see the new Cambodia in the future. I really want to see fewer couruption every year.

  • @100kby35 I have quoted another website but it seems YouTube does not allow me to post the link to the original article. Likewise, I would like to point any people interested in the NON-DEVELOPMENT of Camko City to another website, but cannot... The point being that the city is not happening, hence the land is wasted as no farming and no jobs. Like the recently finished building I see from my window, most of this new space is empty as there is no demand / ordinary people cannot afford them.

  • @100kby35 @100kby35 Carrying on my reply: "... I hear people accuse ordinary Cambodians of being lazy and dishonest. They know all too well where hard work and honesty gets them, and contrast that with the way in which the powerful gain their wealth. Corruption is the cancer of Cambodia."

  • @100kby35 " "And that is what corruption does. A lot of expats live on the surface of Cambodian society and don’t share the experiences of most Cambodians, so they make light of corruption. It does more than irritate a person who has to hand over a couple of dollars to the traffic cops; corruption corrodes the very soul of a nation. I am convinced that it is corruption, not simply ‘poverty’ that is at the root of the appalling state of health care and education in Cambodia. It takes away hope.

  • @oakstrong1 Oakstrong there is much to be pessimistic about, but throwing our hands into the air and saying nothing can be done is not productive. history shows that opening up a country to international money improves the country. there is corruption, sure, but as a wise surgeon once said, "just because perfect sterility is impossible, doesn't mean we should operate in the sewers." in other words, let's not fuss over minor corruption when poor people need jobs.

  • @shca777 I think the most important thing is clearing all the land mines, so people can feel safe to go anywhere in Cambodia. Tourism is a great industry to get into as it brings money into the country and can provide lots of jobs for poor people. Maybe focus on some sort of bio fuel technology that farmers could grow and export to China. Also, I would Make sure any rare metals in the country are identified and mining companies brought in to mine it.

  • Even in the US still have corruption and I hope in the future the new generations will

take over and rule the country better.

  • Why is the street empty?

  • @shca777 do you know that human always need a leader even if we ask freedom. and of course gouv. is worst leader but it put control in the city.

  • It is all matter of attitude, what is OK and what is not. The change has to come from the Cambodian people's heart, not outside: show by example and educate the younger generation. The change won't happen overnight but little by little. I don't think it will ever be eradicated completely in any country but we must strive towards fairer community for ALL PEOPLE on the earth.

  • @shca777 International communities are already trying to put pressure on the government to reduce corruption but there is only so much it can do without invading the country and setting up a military rule - and even then it is doubtful anti-corruption would be reality.
