  • i dont get it though, why around the hook instead through the hook eye. is it a normal fishing knot like uni, clinch, etc. or is there something special about it.

  • Going around the hook shank makes the knot far more durable. It also helps to keep the hook in alignment with the line to assure a positive hook set.

  • @tightlinevideo - is that the only benefit?

  • @Unplugged704 Yeah, I guess knot protection would probably be the largest benefit of the snell. With practice you also might find it faster to tie. For me it's faster than even and improved clinch.

  • Youtube "Tying a Hook" You will see a dude tie / snell the exact same knot from a different direction. Snelling made easy.

There is a blue baseball cap on the table in the background with the word "Pesca" on it. This guy made snelling a snap.

  • Indeed, very clear video. I've never seen a snell done this way before. The only problem I see is you can't do it that way if you want to snell your hook directly to your running line. But great if you are making rigs!

  • Snell knots are ok in some situations, however, I have had them snap as the eye ot the hook can sometimes have an edge where the metal rejoins the shank. Just be careful, the work better with thicker lines IMO.

  • @SptifireAce The snell is better than the Knotless Knot

  • @calpurniuspeso That's way i do it except you might want to loop it at least one more time than he does in the video..

  • One of the worst things you can do to a piece of string, cord or line is to tie a knot in it!

However, choosing the right knot for the job lessens and nearly eliminates weak points. The proper knot for a particular application will also lessen the chance of the knot coming undone.

  • looks a bit like a no knot knot

  • Great Video! I wish they were all as clear as this one is.

Instead of inserting your right hand fingers through the top of the main loop. Try it from the opposite direction; the under side. You won't need your ring finger nor your pinky finger of your left hand to secure the wrapping loop in place to secure the wraps. Try it! The tension on the wraps is supplied by the right hand while wrapping the line around the hook shank.

Less Fingers is like less cooks spoiling the soup.

  • @chuck5hughes it means AWESOME in Thai.

  • @joey05nw yeah what you said
