Prime Minister met with Ban ki Moon in Istanbul

Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri participates in the Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries hosted by Istanbul on May 9-13. Georgia is presented at the conference as the country which succeeded in implementing democratic reforms in a short period of time.

Nika Gilauri has delivered a speech at the conference and reported the reforms carried out by Georgian government. Prime Minister has also held meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and discussed Georgia`s internal and foreign policy.

Secretary General reiterated support to Georgia`s territorial integrity and said that IDPs must return to their homes safely, as it was said in the UN resolution.

`We discussed the reforms implemented in Georgia and how these reforms could become example for other countries; in fact, Georgia can become an exporter of these reforms. As for the relations with Russia, Geneva negotiations are the only format, in which we have relation with Russia and where we have great support of the UN. The enlargement of these negotiations is very significant, especially when we have great support of the organization in this regard,` Gilauri said.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia was also attending the meeting. Davit Jalaghania emphasized the significance of the fact, that the Secretary General was reported about the concerning situation in the occupied territories by Georgian authorities.
