I was spanked when I was a child , and I didn't turn out to be a crazy or even violent. I choose not to spank my kids because I think other foams of discpline was more effective with my sons.

I wish you had linked the study so we could actually see it. This study is likely correlational research, so you can't draw any kind of causal conclusion from it. Perhaps it is discipline in general. Or perhaps parents who physically discipline are likely to show other behaviors, like being less laissez-faire with their children. In fact, there's a whole host of third variables that could be going on here and little reason to think spanking is directly affecting these outcomes.

I am 14 and I got spanked alot and I am thankful for it. I see kids cussing out their parents at places like target. That is unacceptable. The last time I acted up in a public store I got the shit knocked out of me. It is GREAT discipline.

All of these people who think they are being progressive and drawing blanket conclusions about how bad spanking is are totally off base. Spanking is not an approach that works for every child but some children desperately need it. I was one of those that really feared being spanked and it kept me in line more than any other form of discipline. My child is a lot like me and so i treat him that way. I try not to do it often but when I am out of options it does the trick.

Just a side note: Does anyone have a right to say who beats their wives in their own homes? The answer will be no different to kids ;-) We all have a right to know whether violence goes on behind closed doors, because sooner or later it will start affecting others, but this is about real abuse, not light spanking... Still, why spank when you could learn to communicate! Take the time to teach your child, remember, no god will come down and wipe our backsides for us, teach and we will learn!
