Picking Jobs for the Air Force

Make sure you do your research before you write down your official list of jobs that you may take. Go into the ASVAB knowing what you would like, but don't be too restricted and have an open mind about what job opportunities are available to you. I was not given my first choice and everything is okay. I was given 1NOX1 and my tech school will be in San Angelo, Texas.

The website that most comprehensively breaks down all the job choices is About.com. From there, just type in whatever job you're looking for and all the information will be explained. Everything from what the job is to where your tech school could be, to where you could be stationed. Rod Powers is an excellent source of information. USE IT.

im going to take my test this august 30, then i go to meps on the 31 but idk what job i want. ive been studying my ass off everysingle day twice aday for the ASVAB. im going to do well onit but i was wondering if you knew a place where i can look up all the jobs an see what i want to pick from. thanks!

@chilenkillen Go to Google. Type in "Jobs in the USAF", click on the second link "Careers in the Air Force". Look on the right hand side of the screen and it says "View All". All the jobs are there.

@LetsCatchYourDream I have a B.S. in Hospitality Management (aka Services) from the University of South Carolina. and yes, I am looking into becoming an officer. At the most, I am planning for 8 years in the AF; 2-4 as an enlisted and the rest (or as soon as possible) as an officer. I do want to go back to school and get my Masters in Bus Admin or Marketing from Duke University. We'll see how that all goes. I'll have two Bachelors by the time i'm out, though. So 2 Bachelors, 1 Masters.

seems like if you go in asking for a job, you will most likely not get it!

@sicksicksicks3AL that's not necessarily true. I have friends who just held out until they got what they wanted. It's all a combination of what you qualify for, what's on your list, what's open and what the AF needs. However, some people are stubborn and are willing to wait until they get what they want. That is a risk you'll have to decide if you want to take or not, because it could get you kicked out of the DEP.
