The Great White is certainly extremely powerful, and, if provoked, dangerous... but the threat it poses otherwise isn't exactly what they show in movies.

My friend's Dad was a Navy Seal. He said he'd gleefully get into the water with any shark, even the great white... but not a bull shark. They are much more aggressive, and much more unpredictable (plus they can swim in both salt and fresh water.)

The book 'Jaws' that inspired the film was actually based off of bull shark attacks that occured.

If a species begins to rise in population, then it's food source is going to become more scarce, when that happens the overpopulated species will slowly begin to die out and the threatened species population will rise again.
