Eric Kuster
Biography
The ability to strike a perfect balance between classic and modern has put Eric Kuster's name on the international interior design map for almost two decades. His collections of fabrics, furniture and stand alone interiors in both his native Holland and, more recently, further afield in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Africa and Asia, all express an attitude for 'metropolitan luxury'; the fitting label for his iconic brand, encompassing a style that at once embraces glamour, comfort and sophistication. Metropolitan Luxury is also the name of Kuster's first monograph volume which was published by Lannoo in late 2008. The second volume Metropolitan
Luxury volume II was published in 2010.
Biography Eric Kuster
Kuster's career in design began in textiles in 1989, when he took on the position of creative and commercial director of Dutch textile manufacturer
Chivasso. Under their brand, he launched a second line of textiles, Carlucci, which went on to become one of the most successful fabric selections in the country. Kuster's eye for colour and his passion for the tones and hues of nature ensured that he was quickly noticed
by other style connoisseurs and offered the opportunity to open a shop in the trendy town of Laren, on the Dutch gold coast. Specializing
in high-end furniture, lighting and textiles, the outlet quickly became a destination lifestyle store.
Today the Eric Kuster brand has expanded to offer a range of decadent lifestyle solutions to both private and commercial clients around the globe. Within this Interior Studio is dedicated to the design of total concepts for houses, restaurants, hotels, boats, planes and offices. Kuster's reputation for luxurious, personalized interior design has attracted a star-studded list of clients including saxophonist Candy Dulfer, hip hop couple Nas and Kelis and footballers legends such as Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Ruud Gullit (AC Milan/Chelsea), Frank Rijkaard (AC Milan/Barcelona), Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Patrick Kluivert (AC Milan/Barcelona/Valencia), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Ronald Koeman (Barcelona), Eto'o (Barcelona/ Internationale), Johan Cruijff (Ajax/Barcelona) and additionally the players' lounge of Camp Nou (Barcelona). Several villas and penthouses in Marbella, Dubai, Moscow and Bali are also part of the portfolio. Among the many commercial enterprises to have been modelled according to a total concept by Kuster are landmark locations such as the exclusive club Jimmy Woo in Amsterdam and the Barcelona Football Club stadium, the 'Nou Camp'. Kuster has also launched furniture collection, providing hand-made luxury furniture for the high-end market. All of the Eric Kuster products and services are available world-wide and there are plans for further expansion to provide landscape gardening, a fashion line and more home interiors products soon.
The inspiration for Kuster's projects can be found in his experiences in travel, the people he meets and the multitude of styles he encounters.
Proud of his upbringing and roots, Kuster also uses classic European design as a source for ideas to which he adds a contemporary twist. His time is divided between Holland and travelling in Asia, the Middle East, wider Europe and Russia, overseeing the mix of private residences and hospitality commissions the studio currently has in production. Most recently Kuster has opened showrooms in Amsterdam,
Dubai and Moscow, with Egypt and Slovenia soon to follow. His first monobrand store, offering turnkey services as well as his furniture and textiles range, opened late 2009 on the Spanish island of Ibiza. In 2010 the second store opened in Antwerp, Belgium.
