The 31st annual ball of the RSCDS Portland, Oregon Branch, March 13, 2010. The Reel of the 51st Division is an 8x32 reel devised by the Highland Officers. It was first performed in a P.O.W. camp in Germany in the presence of Major General Sir W.M. Fortune, K.C.B., D.S.O., the Divisional Commander, who granted permission to give the dance its title to commemorate the Division in France 1940. The lead tune is The Drunken Piper by Alex MacLeod. The pianist and music arranger here is Cynthia Soohoo, playing with her fiddler son, Alexander.
What fun. Live music?! How great is that? One of my favorite dances. Thanks!

Traditionally this dance is done with all male dancers, to commemorate the heroism of the 51st division in France.
