Lincoln was the greatest tyrant in American History aside from FDR. Obama's making a run at it though.

The fact that this man lost the 1964 election to LBJ, one of the most lopsided elections in US history, really shows how far this country has sank.

What about the IMMENSELY RETARDED "compassionate conservative" exemplified by George W Bush and the Neo Cons.

I completely agree. I just finished reading a book on the radicalization of the Republican party. It really isn't even the GOP anymore. It's the Conservative party.

Here, here. Goldwater was the culmination of a destructive focal-point comprised of radical thought leaders like William Rusher, Clifton White, The Young Republicans of the 1960's and editor of The National Review, William F. Buckley Jr. The book Rule and Ruin (2012) is an in depth autopsy of the corps of the Republican party, before and since the disastrous Goldwater defeat. To this day, the Republican party struggles to out Conservative neo-Godwaterites from the midst.

Ha ha ha! Democrats didn't label him an extremist, moderate Republicans did. Example: "A fanatical neo-facsist political cult of right-wingers in the GOP, driven by a strange mixture of corrosive hatred and sickening fear that is recklessly determined to control our party or destroy it!" - Republican Senator Thomas Kuchel 1966. Read the book Rule & Ruin - The Downfall of Moderation and the Destruction of the Republican Party; A Study in Post WWII Political Development.
