Why is the middle pickup on your guitar set so low? Is it functional?

@clazym I find it hard to play a guitar with a middle pickup, it gets in my way when I pick. Also I almost never use it and when I do its for clean tones so the fact that it has a weaker signal because its farther from the strings is a plus!
