Elsewhere in the Atlantic, Hurricane Igor is moving west with maximum sustained winds near 150 mph. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Igor could become a Category 5 hurricane later Monday. (Sept. 13)
@agearmaster1 Umm no you are mistaken . The national hurricane center and noaa officially classified Igor as a Category 4 hurricane with 155 mph winds . If you didnt notice , a Cat. 5 starts from 156 mph but most storms get to 160 mph . Check your resources next time .
@jm5390 I dont think it did.Waters were hot record warm but it was just the surface,Igor massive size cause the water in front of him to upwell moving deep waters to the surface.Igor was to massive for the Atlantic ocean but is kinda funny :)
Igor never made it to be a Category 5 but it was super close , reaching 155 mph (Cat. 5 have winds startinq from 165 mph and up) so Igor made it to be a Cat. 4 but was very strong. Thankfully, not a lives were lost :)
I think Igor DID become a category 5 hurricane. I mean, how could it not? It had a "stadium" eye common of category 5 and top notch cat 4 hurricanes. Its symmetry was amazing and had a great eye, CDO, and outflow pattern for days.

So I'm thinking Igor WAS a cat 5.
