Here is a materials list and step by step process if you click view more in this box. This is a picture slideshow of the process i went through to create the prosthetics and makeup for The Joker.
The description of the process was hard to read on the video so heres an outline:

Materials Needed:
silicond caulk
popsicle sticks
liquid latex
white clown grease makeup
black grease makeup
red grease makeup
plaster of paris
alginate
paint brush
plaster bandages

The Process:
first you will need a friends help, mix up your alginate mix and with them sitting down, covering any clothing with plastic. have them keep a natural face pose. then cover the lower half of your face excluding the neck. next apply the plaster bandages covering all exposed alginate. wait for it to cure about 3 to 5 min and have the person your casting suck there cheeks in and wiggle there face around to release them. Now with a negative mold of your face your ready to fill it. mix up some plaster of paris or ultra cal 30, and fill your mold, wait over night about 5-6 hours. Then remove the plaster from the mold. now you have your face in plaster, i printed off some pictures of heath as the joker, and i found the site of the company who actully did the makeup for the movie, and they have some great pictures of the appliances there site is called The Silicone Solution just search it on yahoo youll find it.

Sculpting the scars:
Ok with pictures in hand i got some clay, i used sculpty but hey thats what i had. theres really no way for me to explain how to sculpt the scares. just fallow the pictures and make it how you see it. Now after you have sculpted it (it took me about 3 hours to sculpt) anyway after its done being sculpted you wanna cover it in a mold release. I used plain dish soap its cheap and it works, take a paint brush and soap and cover the plaster and clay with the soap make sure to brush up any puddles of soap, wait about a hour before you do anything with it. next you wanna fill the mold with plaster to make a negative. wait about 5-6 hours and remove.

Silicone:
i used White lightning silicone rubber all purpose caulking. from menards, cost about $4 bucks. Now youll again want to coat the intire plaster cast inside with soap and wait 1 hour again. now its time to fill, use the silicone to fill the mold, make sure to fill where the clay was. after filling the scars put alittle extra on and use a popsicle stick to flatten and thin the edges. Wait at least 5 hours before testing if it feels dry it is. just start at the edges and use your finger to roll it off the mold be carful it could rip. After demolding all three pieces your ready for makeup.

Applying:
use liquid latex on the back side of the appliance and the spot on the face where your putting it. apply all theree pieces and use latex on the edges to blend them. Grab your clown white grease makeup and do about 2 coats. make sure to make your face solid white, do not cover eyes. grab your black makeup and cover the eyes make them jet black, also add little lines around them (see pictures). now red makeup cover your lips as if it were lip stick, and only cover the top half of the lower lip appliance. now use the red inside the scares, and alittle on top not to much.

The interview look:
Now with your nice new joker makeup and mess it up. the left top of the face rub the white off make sure skin color shows through. do this in various spots (see pictures). rub the red on the scars down alittle on to the chin, rub the black around the eyes up wards and make it thiner more rubbed off looking.

Costume:
For mine i went to a thrift store and got a blue button up shirt, i couldn't find a green vest, so i got a green button up shirt and altered it to look like a vest. i had a tie already and some pants. for the shirt i used a interagation picture from the movie and a sharpie and drew the shapes all over the spots that would be exposed.

And thats it if you have any questions post a comment or email me at bum_machine@yahoo.com thanks and good luck!

  • so you Molded the scars from clay..and then what? can you give me the details please? cuz im trying the best to figure out the best way to make scars cuz i hate what i've done so far..so please help me from one joker to another..

  • after they were molded in clay i brushed on some lub (aka dish soap with a little water and bursh it on) let it dry for half hour then make clay walls around it and pour your plaster. let it dry for a few hours tell it feels room temp. then de mold (if its really sticking submurge in water it will disolve the lub.) then fill your negative scar mold with silicone calking from menards. let it dry remove paint and apply.

  • The make up is good.

    BUT.

Everyone knows the REAL way to make a Joker is to be a drinker and a fiend. And go off a little crazier than usual one night.
