Elk County, PA visitors center. There are about 900 free ranging wild elk in northcentral PA. They were reintroduced in 1913 after the native elk were extirpated. There was no open season on elk until a few years ago, so there are some huge bulls here. There is a lottery system for elk permits and only about 60 permits are issued each year.
This particular area is off limits to hunting, as the elk here have become used to people. Elk watching is extremely popular and brings a lot of income to the area. It also brings problems as the area is remote and not everybody mind their manners.
These elk are still wild, and should be observed from a distance.
awesome video!
