He wasnt punished for a deliberate eye gouge (which is what it was) he got a yellow for making contact with the face, and he was cited for making dangerous but "non intentional" contact with the eye of Fitzgerald. It wasnt a an accident as quinlans was when grabbing cullen (stupidly) by the face. IT was a deliberate attempt to damage the eye. He's scum and the fact that he continued to play for the Boks shows how little respect they have for the game.

And perhaps Quinlan and Best are scum, but you see the difference is , they're long retired from the international scene, whereas Schalk and Bakkies are still playing. So it's not about getting on with it. It's about punishing people fairly, and eye gouging you'll have to agree is an extreme offence. If a man attacked my eyes I'd brutally kill him. Quinlan was banned for weeks and missed the whole tour - Burger got 10 minutes. Not even remotely proportional punishments. If the touch judge standing right there had had the balls to say red card - rather than "at least a yellow" the right decision would have been made. That touch judge? Bryce Lawrence of course.
