This week on Writers' Bloc, we discuss who the Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers are, what they did last season, what novelist John Green has to do with them, why they're important for experimental fiction writers as we use them as an example of emergent storytelling.

  • I'm currently critiquing a novel which is painfully obvious based off of a game, so I felt a need to say something this topic. Of realistic games like sports, I have no problem. It's games like Final Fantasy I cringe at. Several reasons: 1) plot/characters do things for the sake of the plot with little to no development or explanation 2) world-building isn't explained. High tech, yet they use low-tech weapons/transport? 3) Fight scenes aren't realistic.

I'm not against it, just wary.

  • it is amazing how John Green...and the internet have done this time and again...what was just supposed to be a year long experiment in how he communicated with his brother Hank turned into one of the most popular channels with two more launching this month; what was a pretty throw-away joke that year became a term for an entire fan-base who now have multiple websites and do amazing things for charity, and yes he's taken what was just a game and created another world.
